NEW JERSEY-BASED BAND THE BLAKES ROCKS INTERNATIONAL POP OVERTHROW ON APRIL 26, 2003

CHICAGO, IL (April 4, 2003) - Recently voted "Best New Band of 2002" by The Jersey Beat, THE BLAKES will showcase songs from their debut EP, New Tattoo, at International Pop Overthrow in Chicago on Saturday, April 26th at 7:30 PM.

International Pop Overthrow is a pop music festival which has been held for the past five summers in Los Angeles, the past two winters in New York, and will be making its second stop in Chicago from April 18-May 2. Each International Pop Overthrow features between 100-180 of the best pop bands from around the world.

The purpose of International Pop Overthrow is two-fold: one aim is to give every worthy band who'd like to play their music in a festival atmosphere the chance to do so, and the other is to bring pop music the attention it so richly deserves. "We have made great strides to that end," says IPO's David Bash, "garnering press in several noteworthy papers in each city in which we hold the festival, and creating a very positive buzz about pop music within the inner circles of major labels. We're looking forward to the very real possibility that a number of bands who have played IPO will grab the brass ring and receive major label deals."

THE BLAKES are definitely a band to watch. With influences ranging from 60's pop icons, to 70's songsmiths, to their contemporaries, THE BLAKES offer a warm and inviting mix of imaginative and engaging melodies, complimented by honest lyrics. "This incredible 6-song EP will leave listeners breathless with its mix of Jellyfish-styled sing-along choruses, vaguely hinted Queen histronics, and the best sounding band in The Tories vein we have heard in years... Well-rounded, hook-driven and heavenly layered vocals explode in every corner of each song" raves Not Lame Recording Company. "A local supergroup that's a sure bet for radio dominance given the right exposure" touts the Aquarian Weekly.

Comprised entirely of New Jersey natives, THE BLAKES consists of guitarist/vocalist Paul Rosevear, bassist/vocalist Gay Elvis, keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist Beau Burtnick (son of current STYX bassist/vocalist Glen Burtnick), and Chris Thumann on drums.

Their 6-song debut EP, "New Tattoo," (released in February 2003) is already receiving critical acclaim. Inside Beat writes, "The vocals are well thought-out and perfectly in tune, the guitars shimmer and soar but not so much that they lose the ability to rawk, the bass is buoyant but clear, and the drums keep the beat up but out of one's face," and The Jersey Beat proclaims, "the music is rich, dreamy, harmonic... thundering drums, huge power chords, lush creamy harmonies, and a singer who glides effortlessly into feathery falsettos... This is music to fallin love to. And fall in love with..."

THE BLAKES will perform at The Abbey Pub, 3420 West Grace, Chicago, IL as part of "Not Lame Records Night" on Saturday, April 26th at 7:30 PM.
